Who is Power?

A Blood Fiend with horns and a devil's arrogance, kept on Public Safety's leash after a long record of insubordination. Loud, cowardly and shamelessly dishonest, she betrays Denji within minutes of meeting him, yet her devotion to her cat Meowy is genuine. Living with Denji and Aki slowly turns her selfishness into something resembling friendship, which she will never admit aloud.

Appearance

Power is a fiend, a devil wearing a human corpse, and the possession shows. Two red, ridged horns curve up from her forehead through long, pale blonde hair that sticks out in unruly tufts and reaches past her waist. Her eyes are striking: yellow sclera with red irises and cross-shaped pupils, set above a wide mouth full of pointed teeth. She wears the black Public Safety suit and tie, perpetually rumpled, shirt half untucked. Her expressions swing between smug grandstanding and open-mouthed panic, and when fighting she coats her hands in hardened crimson blood.

Personality

Loud, vain and shamelessly dishonest, Power announces her own superiority constantly and blames her failures on anyone nearby. She lies as a first instinct, panics when outmatched, and will trade away an ally to save herself, then rationalise it within seconds. She refuses to bathe, leaves the toilet in a disgraceful state, and treats Aki's apartment as a den. Yet her affection, once given, is total: she adores her cat Meowy and will take absurd risks for her. Watching Denji risk himself for her slowly teaches her the concept of friendship, something she declares with the same bluster she applies to everything else. Underneath the swagger she is a coward learning courage.

Background

Power was born as the Blood Devil, feeding on human fear of blood, before taking over the body of a dead girl and becoming a fiend. She spent her early existence killing humans and devouring devils with no loyalty to anyone, until Public Safety captured her and pressed her into service as a devil hunter, a common fate for fiends who are useful in the field. Along the way she rescued and bonded with a cat she named Meowy, the only creature she openly loved. Posted to Tokyo Special Division 4 under Makima, she had a reputation for abandoning partners and inflating her kill reports long before Denji arrived.

Role in Chainsaw Man

  1. Introduction to Public Safety

Power ambushes Denji in the division office, attacking him on sight before Makima intervenes. Assigned to work alongside him, she immediately begins lying about her achievements, and the two are shoved into Aki's apartment together, turning his orderly home into a battlefield of unwashed dishes and shouting.

  2. Bat Devil and the Leech Devil

Desperate to free her kidnapped cat, Power leads Denji into a trap and hands him over to the Bat Devil. When Denji fights on anyway and her own blood becomes the weapon that ends the devil, she is left genuinely stunned that someone would bleed for her, and she claims him as a friend.

  3. Eternity Devil

Sealed in the looping hotel floor, Power's bravado collapses within hours. She hides, schemes and tries to bargain her way out while Denji takes the punishment, and her blood ultimately helps finish the fight. The ordeal cements her bond with him even as it exposes how little she handles fear.

  4. Katana Man

Surviving the attack on Division 4, Power is sent with Denji to train under the veteran Kishibe, enduring sparring that is closer to assault than instruction. She sharpens her blood weapons, learns to stop fleeing on instinct, and rejoins the hunt for Katana Man as a far more dangerous partner than before.

Abilities and techniques

Blood manipulation

As the Blood Fiend, Power can draw her own blood out of her body and harden it into weapons. Her favourites are an oversized hammer, spears and axes, shaped instantly and discarded just as fast when a fight turns.

Blood replenishment

Drinking blood restores and increases her reserves, making her stronger the more she consumes. Because her power is literally her lifeblood, overuse leaves her weakened and shrunken until she can feed again.

Fiend durability

Occupying a corpse, she shrugs off wounds that would kill a human and can reattach or rebuild damaged parts using her own blood, letting her keep fighting through injuries that would end a normal hunter.

Enhanced strength and speed

Her devil body gives her far more physical power than her slim frame suggests, enough to swing solidified blood weapons several times her size and to overwhelm lesser devils through sheer brute force.

Blood transfusion support

She can lend her blood to allies, most notably refuelling Denji mid-fight so he can continue as Chainsaw Man. The technique makes her valuable even when she refuses to engage an enemy herself.

Relationships

Denji
Partner and self-declared friend
She betrays him almost immediately, then is genuinely moved when he keeps fighting for her sake. Their friendship runs on insults, shared food and mutual filth, and she is fiercely proud to call him hers.
Meowy
Beloved cat
The cat she rescued is the one being she loved unconditionally before meeting Denji. Her willingness to sell out a human to get Meowy back drives the early arc and defines her moral starting point.
Aki Hayakawa
Housemate and senior
She ignores his rules, trashes his bathroom and calls him names, while he keeps feeding her anyway. The grudging domestic routine they build with Denji becomes the closest thing either has to a family.
Makima
Handler
Makima keeps the fiend on a short leash with praise, punishment and the implicit threat of disposal. Power obeys out of self-preservation rather than loyalty, and is visibly smaller around her.

Notable moments

  • She attacks Denji the moment they meet, then tries to claim the kill credit for a devil he destroyed.
  • She bargains Denji's life away to the Bat Devil in exchange for her cat.
  • Her blood becomes the weapon that lets Denji finish the Bat Devil, sealing their friendship.
  • She survives Kishibe's brutal training regimen alongside Denji before the final confrontation of the season.

Trivia

  • She refuses to bathe and has to be dragged into the tub, a running conflict in the shared apartment.
  • Her cross-shaped pupils are a visual signature used throughout the anime's key art.
  • She routinely exaggerates her devil kill count on official reports.
  • Being a fiend means her body is a dead girl's, possessed and reanimated by the Blood Devil.
