Madara Uchiha

The legendary Uchiha founder is brought back by Kabuto's Impure World Reincarnation and proves stronger than entire divisions of the allied army. Once Obito's plan succeeds, Madara restores himself to life, claims both Rinnegan and the Ten-Tails, and casts the Infinite Tsukuyomi to unite the world under a dream. His triumph is short-lived: Black Zetsu betrays him so that Kaguya may return.

Restored to his prime by reanimation, Madara is a tall, powerfully built man with a waist-length mane of spiked black hair that flares outward like a dark crown, and sharp, heavy-lidded eyes that hold a permanent look of amusement. He wears a high-collared red armour plate over a dark bodysuit with the Uchiha crest at the back, and carries a huge war fan on a chain. Reanimation gives his skin a cracked greyish tone with dark sclera markings. Later, as the Ten-Tails' host, his hair pales, horns grow from his brow and a third eye opens on his forehead.

Madara is an absolute egotist who treats war as the only honest form of conversation. He is theatrical, mocking and openly delighted by strong opponents, greeting five Kage at once as a long-awaited entertainment rather than a threat. Beneath the swagger lies a bitter conviction that peace built on trust always collapses, formed when his dream of a shared future with Hashirama Senju soured. He respects strength, despises compromise and regards nearly everyone as a tool, including the boy he rebuilt to carry out his plan. Yet he is not wholly without warmth: his memories of his brother Izuna and of Hashirama surface in his last moments, and he dies almost gently, reminiscing rather than raging.

Madara was the eldest surviving son of the Uchiha clan in an era of endless warring states, hardened by the deaths of his brothers. As a boy he befriended Hashirama Senju across a river without knowing they were heirs to enemy clans, and the two dreamed of a village where children would not be sent to die. Years later, as clan head wielding the Mangekyo Sharingan he gained after Izuna's death, he helped found Konohagakure with Hashirama, then broke with it over his distrust of Senju rule. Defeated at the Valley of the End, he was believed dead but survived in hiding, transplanting Hashirama's cells, awakening the Rinnegan and drafting the Eye of the Moon Plan before dying of old age.

1. Five Kage Summit and its aftermath

   Though absent in person, his shadow dominates the summit: the masked man claims his name and reputation to intimidate the Kage. Flashbacks unfold his friendship with Hashirama, the founding of Konoha, his defection and the legendary duel at the Valley of the End that supposedly ended his life.

2. Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation

   Kabuto Yakushi reanimates the real Madara as a bargaining chip against his supposed ally, exposing the masked man's fraud. Unleashed on the battlefield, Madara casually devastates entire divisions of the Allied Shinobi Forces and reveals that a reanimated body can be pushed far past mortal limits.

3. Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax

   He takes on all five Kage at once, shrugging off the Tsuchikage's dust release, Gaara's sand and the Raikage's speed while dividing himself into dozens of wood clones. The battle demonstrates his perfected Susanoo and leaves the leaders of the shinobi world broken and outclassed.

4. Birth of the Ten-Tails' Jinchuriki

   Freeing himself from the reanimation binding, he reclaims his Rinnegan from Obito, revives the Ten-Tails through his fallen disciple's body and absorbs it himself. With Six Paths power he blinds the allied army, gathers the moon's light and finally casts the Infinite Tsukuyomi across the world.

5. Kaguya Otsutsuki Strikes

   At the summit of his triumph he is impaled from within by Black Zetsu, who reveals that the entire plan existed to resurrect Kaguya Otsutsuki. Stripped of the beast and of his eyes, he lives just long enough to speak with a reanimated Hashirama and accept that his ideals were borrowed.

Hashirama Senju

Rival and only true friend

Their boyhood bond built a village and their falling out nearly destroyed it. Madara measures every later opponent against Hashirama, and their final conversation after his defeat is the one moment his arrogance drops entirely.

Obito Uchiha

Successor and pawn

He rebuilt the dying boy's body and handed him a plan, a name and a purpose, intending all along to use him as the vessel for his own return. Obito's eventual betrayal genuinely surprises him.

Black Zetsu

Supposed creation and true handler

Madara believed Zetsu to be an extension of his own will. In reality Zetsu was Kaguya's manifestation, editing his tablet and steering his ambitions toward a resurrection that had nothing to do with him.

Izuna Uchiha

Younger brother

Izuna's death and the gift of his eyes gave Madara the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan and hardened his conviction that bonds end in loss, a belief that colours every decision he makes afterwards.

• His reanimated form arrives on the battlefield and annihilates allied divisions almost as an afterthought.
• He fights all five Kage simultaneously and walks away from the encounter unimpressed.
• He breaks free of the reanimation technique to return to the world in a living body.
• He becomes the Ten-Tails' jinchuriki and casts the Infinite Tsukuyomi over the entire world.
• Black Zetsu turns on him at his moment of victory, revealing whose plan he was actually serving.

• For much of Part I and early Part II his name is used entirely as a false identity by someone else.
• His war fan, the gunbai, is a command implement historically carried by generals rather than a conventional weapon.
• He is the first character in the series shown using a perfected Susanoo.
• The Valley of the End statues that overlook Naruto and Sasuke's duels commemorate his fight with Hashirama.
