Connie Springer

A small, shaven-headed boy from the village of Ragako, Connie is quick on his feet and slow on the uptake, frequently the butt of jokes alongside his friend Sasha. He finished eighth in the class on pure agility. The catastrophe at Trost strips away his bravado, and his decision about which branch to join shows that loyalty to his comrades outweighs his instinct for self-preservation.

Connie is the shortest of the male cadets, compact and wiry rather than slight, with a build suited to quick pivots. His head is shaved almost to the scalp, leaving a pale buzz of light brown hair, and his eyes are large, round and hazel, giving him a perpetually startled or delighted look. His face is the most elastic in the cast, cycling rapidly between grinning mischief and open-mouthed horror. He wears the standard 104th cadet uniform with harness straps and tall boots, and after graduation the Survey Corps jacket with its green hooded cloak and winged emblem.

Connie is cheerful, impulsive and not remotely academic, a boy who loudly admits that reading and strategy are beyond him and gets by on instinct and energy. He is the class joker, forever teaming with Sasha on food raids and bad ideas, and he is easily impressed by anyone who seems confident. What redeems the goofiness is an honest, uncomplicated loyalty: he does not calculate, he simply stays with his friends. He is also more emotionally transparent than the others, his fear and grief showing on his face immediately. Under fire he can freeze, but once someone gives him a clear task he throws himself into it without hesitation.

Connie was born and raised in Ragako, a small village inside Wall Rose, in a family he cared about deeply. He enlisted with the 104th Training Corps carrying a fairly straightforward ambition: finish in the top ten, take the Military Police commission and return home with a title that would impress the people who watched him grow up. Training exposed his weaknesses quickly, particularly anything involving written work or theory, but it also revealed a gift for the vertical manoeuvring gear that instructors noticed. Watching Eren insist on fighting Titans rather than hiding behind rank shook his assumptions about why he was there, and he finished eighth in his class.

1. 104th Training Corps

   Connie appears as the loudest and least disciplined of the recruits, singled out by the instructor during the induction ordeal and drawn immediately into a partnership in mischief with Sasha. He states openly that he wants a top-ten placement to impress his village, and struggles with every part of training that involves thinking rather than moving.

2. Battle of Trost

   Graduating eighth, he is thrown into the defence of Trost and joins the cadets fighting toward the supply depot when the gas runs out. He is present for the moment Eren returns in Titan form, and afterward is part of the squad escorting the plan to plug the breached gate with a boulder.

3. Aftermath of Trost

   Shaken by what he has seen and by the revelation about Eren, Connie faces the regiment choice with his old Military Police ambition hollowed out. When the Survey Corps commander offers the recruits a last chance to leave, he stays, abandoning the future he had planned in order to remain with his friends.

4. The Female Titan and the 57th Expedition

   He rides in the long-range scouting formation on his first mission outside the walls, part of the relay network that carries flare signals between columns. The expedition's collapse and the scale of the casualties give him his first real understanding of what the Survey Corps costs, and he returns among the few survivors.

Sasha Blouse

Best friend

Connie and Sasha are inseparable, conspiring over stolen food and reacting to crises with identical panic. Their double act supplies most of the lighter moments among the 104th and gives both a genuine emotional anchor.

Eren Yeager

Comrade and influence

Eren's refusal to hide behind a safe posting rattles Connie's ambitions and pushes him toward the Survey Corps. He is also among the first to accept Eren after the Titan revelation rather than fear him.

Jean Kirstein

Squadmate

Jean treats Connie as a well-meaning idiot and Connie takes it in stride. They fight in the same clusters through Trost and end up in the same regiment, part of the tight core of 104th survivors.

Mikasa Ackerman

Comrade

Connie openly respects Mikasa's ability and defers to her judgement in combat, following her lead during the Trost fighting without the resentment other cadets show toward her talent.
