Who is Sasha Blouse?

Raised as a hunter in the mountain village of Dauper, Sasha has animal-sharp senses and a bottomless appetite that makes her the class clown - her theft of a steamed potato during drill becomes legend. Beneath the silliness is a skilled tracker who perceives danger before her comrades do, though her country manners and fear of authority often leave her tongue-tied at the worst moments.

Appearance

Sasha is tall and wiry, built with the long-limbed leanness of someone raised chasing game through forests. Her reddish-brown hair is usually pulled up into a high, slightly messy ponytail with loose strands falling around her face, and her large amber eyes go comically wide at the mention of food. Her expressions swing between blank-faced innocence and open-mouthed alarm, which the animation exaggerates for comedy. She wears the standard cadet uniform, jacket and harness straps over white trousers, and later the Survey Corps jacket with the green hooded cloak. She often keeps something edible tucked away on her person.

Personality

Sasha's defining trait in this series is an appetite that overrides her judgement, prompting her to steal food in front of an instructor and to hoard rations she cannot possibly need. She is loud, easily panicked and prone to shrieking, which makes her the class clown alongside Connie. But the silliness sits on top of a genuinely rural upbringing she is embarrassed by: she tries to disguise her country accent with stiff formal speech and only slips back into it when frightened. Her instincts are sharper than anyone credits, and when danger is real she reacts before the others have processed it. She is loyal and warm, and her fear is honest rather than cowardly.

Background

Sasha comes from Dauper, a small hunting village in the mountainous southern region inside Wall Rose, where families lived off game rather than farmland. Growing up in the forest gave her extraordinary senses and stamina but also left her unprepared for how the rest of humanity spoke and behaved. Food scarcity shaped her: in a village that ate what it could catch, a guaranteed meal was not something to take lightly, which explains the hoarding instinct her classmates find absurd. She enlisted with the 104th Training Corps and found herself mocked for her accent and her manners, retreating into an awkward, overly polite way of speaking to fit in. Despite the ridicule she placed ninth in her graduating class.

Role in Attack on Titan

  1. 104th Training Corps

Sasha introduces herself to the audience by stealing a steamed potato from the mess and eating it during inspection, then offering the instructor half as an apology. Sentenced to run until she collapses, she becomes the class's comic legend. Her rural accent and constant hunger mark her as an outsider among the cadets.

  2. Battle of Trost

Deployed in the defence of Trost as a fresh graduate, she is caught in the chaos of the breach with her gas running low. Her hunter's reflexes and reckless improvisation keep her alive where better-drilled soldiers die, and she regroups with the surviving cadets for the operation to seal the gate.

  3. Aftermath of Trost

Among the survivors who learn that Eren can transform, Sasha is present for the fallout and the regiment selection. Despite being visibly, vocally terrified of dying, she chooses to remain when the Survey Corps commander offers the recruits a chance to walk away, joining the expedition force with the rest of her friends.

  4. The Female Titan and the 57th Expedition

She rides in the long-range scouting formation beyond the walls, one of the relay soldiers whose signal flares carry warnings across the columns. The expedition's catastrophic losses to the Female Titan mark her first taste of open-field warfare, and she returns to the interior with the shrunken remnant of the corps.

Abilities and techniques

Exceptional senses

Raised hunting in forest terrain, Sasha detects movement, sound and scent long before her comrades do. She repeatedly senses approaching danger first, which makes her valuable as a scout and as an early-warning element in formation.

Vertical manoeuvring equipment skill

She graduated ninth in her class largely on physical talent, handling the gear with a hunter's feel for momentum and distance. Her wire work is nimble rather than powerful, favouring evasion and repositioning over head-on engagement.

Speed and stamina

Her running endurance is remarkable even by soldier standards, a product of village life spent covering long distances on foot. She is punished during training by being made to run and simply keeps going.

Hunter's improvisation

Sasha thinks like prey and predator at once, using terrain, distraction and unorthodox tools instead of confronting a threat directly. This resourcefulness keeps her alive in Trost when her equipment options are nearly exhausted.

Horsemanship

Competent enough in the saddle to hold a position in the Survey Corps long-range scouting formation, where riders must maintain spacing across open ground and relay flare signals over considerable distances.

Relationships

Connie Springer
Best friend
The two form an inseparable comic duo, sharing food, schemes and panic in equal measure. Their friendship is the warmest uncomplicated bond among the 104th survivors and gives both of them a place to be ridiculous.
Krista Lenz
Friend
Krista's gentleness draws Sasha to her, and Sasha is among the cadets who treat the smaller girl with open affection. Krista's kindness contrasts with the mockery Sasha receives over her accent and appetite.
Mikasa Ackerman
Comrade and superior talent
Sasha admires Mikasa's ability without envy and follows her lead in combat situations. Their differing temperaments, one calm and lethal, one loud and instinctive, complement each other during the Trost fighting.
Jean Kirstein
Squadmate
Jean is regularly exasperated by her food obsession and shrieking, but the two fight in the same clusters through Trost and the expedition, and he counts her among the handful of people he trusts.

Notable moments

  • She steals and eats a potato during inspection, then politely offers her commanding officer half of it.
  • She is ordered to run laps until collapse as punishment and endures far longer than expected.
  • Her rural accent slips out whenever she is genuinely terrified, exposing the polite speech as a disguise.
  • She survives the chaos of the Trost breach through improvisation after her resources run short.
  • She volunteers to stay with the Survey Corps despite openly admitting how frightened she is.

Trivia

  • The potato incident earned her the enduring nickname Potato Girl among fans and within the story.
  • Her home village of Dauper survived by hunting rather than farming, unusual inside the walls.
  • She graduated ninth in the 104th Training Corps.
  • Yu Kobayashi's exaggerated vocal performance made Sasha one of the series' most recognisable comic voices.
  • Her efforts to hide her accent behind stiff formal language are a running detail of her early appearances.
