Minoru Mineta

The shortest student in Class 1-A and easily the most cowardly, prone to loud panic and leering commentary that exasperates everyone around him. His head grows sticky spheres that adhere to almost anything, a Quirk that looks ridiculous until he uses it to trap opponents. Cornered during the villain attack, he manages a moment of genuine usefulness, proving the cowardice is not the whole story.

Easily the smallest student in Class 1-A, Mineta barely reaches his classmates' waists. The top of his head is covered in a cluster of round, glossy purple spheres that resemble a bunch of grapes, and these detachable balls are the physical form of his Quirk. He has a wide face with unusually large eyes ringed by dark shadows, a small nose and a permanently anxious or leering expression. His hero costume is a purple bodysuit with yellow and white accents, a short cape-like mantle, oversized purple footwear and a diaper-like lower section, giving him a deliberately unheroic, almost cartoonish silhouette beside his classmates.

Loud, cowardly and shamelessly lecherous, Mineta is the comic disgrace of Class 1-A. He announces that he became a hero for fame and the attention of women, panics openly at the first sign of danger and frequently tries to hide behind stronger classmates. He is also genuinely clever in a self-preserving way, and when cornered he can think through a problem faster than braver students. Flashes of real courage surface only when someone he likes is directly threatened, and even then he cries through the whole ordeal. He is quick to declare himself finished, quick to boast when things go well, and utterly incapable of reading a room, which keeps him permanently on the receiving end of his classmates' exasperation.

Mineta grew up with a Quirk that most people would find ridiculous rather than heroic, producing sticky spheres from his own scalp. Rather than be discouraged, he decided early that hero work offered the shortest route to popularity and, in his own frank estimation, to the admiration of girls. He worked to pass U.A.'s notoriously difficult entrance examination, an achievement that is easy to overlook given how he behaves afterwards, and secured a place in the Hero Course alongside far more physically gifted applicants. His small stature and joke of a power mean he arrives at U.A. with something to prove, though he is far more interested in enjoying student life than in proving it.

1. First Days at U.A.

   Mineta is introduced as one of the twenty students of Class 1-A, immediately marking himself out through his tiny size and his open interest in his female classmates. Even in early classroom scenes he is treated as comic relief, reacting with exaggerated terror to Aizawa's expulsion threats and to the general intensity of the Hero Course.

2. Quirk Apprehension Test

   Aizawa's assessment exposes how poorly Mineta's Quirk suits raw physical events. His attempt at the softball throw ends in humiliation when his sticky ball simply bounces back, and he finishes near the bottom of the class ranking, leaving him terrified that he will be the one sent home.

3. Battle Trial

   Teamed with Hanta Sero as villains defending the fake weapon, Mineta spends most of the exercise hiding and boasting about what he would do if he were braver. The match ends almost before it begins when Shoto Todoroki freezes the entire building, taking the pair out of the fight without a single exchange.

4. Class Representative Election

   Mineta joins the chaotic scramble for the class representative post, voting for himself along with most of the class and complaining loudly about the result. The episode establishes the group dynamic of Class 1-A, with Mineta firmly positioned as the least dignified voice in the room.

5. Unforeseen Simulation Joint (USJ)

   Warped into the Shipwreck Zone with Midoriya and Tsuyu Asui, Mineta spends the ambush in open panic, sobbing and clinging to his teammates. When the villains close in, he finally uses his adhesive spheres to trap them in the water, contributing directly to the group's escape despite being terrified the entire time.

Grouped with Midoriya during the villain attack, Mineta relies entirely on his steadier classmate for direction. Midoriya's willingness to fight shames him into finally acting instead of hiding.

Tsuyu treats Mineta's panic and his inappropriate comments with the same flat, unimpressed calm, physically carrying him to safety in the Shipwreck Zone while ignoring his hysterics entirely.

Paired as villains defending the target, the two barely get to cooperate before Todoroki's ice ends the match. Their loss underlines how badly Mineta fares without a strong offensive partner.

The class collectively regards Mineta as an embarrassment, tolerating his outbursts with visible irritation. He nonetheless remains one of them, included in every exercise and never actually excluded.
