Shota Aizawa

Class 1-A's perpetually exhausted homeroom teacher, who introduces himself by threatening to expel anyone who underperforms. He works underground, avoiding publicity, and cancels other people's Quirks simply by looking at them. Cynical in manner but fiercely protective, he throws himself alone against a small army of villains at the training facility to buy his students time, and pays for it badly.

Aizawa is tall and lean, with long, unkempt black hair that falls past his shoulders and permanent dark shadows under bloodshot eyes. Stubble and a generally rumpled look complete the impression of a man who never sleeps properly. He dresses in a plain black jumpsuit-style outfit with boots and a utility belt, topped by a long grey scarf of woven steel-alloy fibre that coils around his neck and moves as if alive. Yellow-tinted goggles hang at his throat and are pulled up in combat. Off duty he is often seen zipped into a bright yellow sleeping bag.

Blunt, exhausted and allergic to wasted effort, Aizawa despises spectacle and prefers to operate out of the public eye. He speaks in flat, unsentimental terms, calls unproductive behaviour irrational, and shows no interest in making students comfortable. His teaching method is deliberately harsh: he manufactures pressure, threatens consequences and lets pupils believe the worst in order to see how they respond. Beneath that, he is a meticulous observer who tracks every student's limits and potential, and his contempt for heroes who endanger themselves for applause is really concern dressed as annoyance. When his class is genuinely threatened he abandons caution instantly, throwing himself at overwhelming odds without hesitation and without expecting anyone to thank him.

A graduate of U.A. himself, Aizawa built a career as an underground hero, taking cases that require anonymity and avoiding media coverage entirely, since a widely recognised face would ruin the ambush tactics his Quirk depends on. Erasure gives him no raw power, so he compensated with relentless physical training, capture-weapon technique and patient analysis of opponents. Eventually he joined the U.A. teaching staff, where he earned a reputation for expelling entire classes when he judged them to lack potential, a policy that made him feared long before his first-year students met him. By the time Class 1-A arrives he has settled into a routine of blunt assessments, naps in a sleeping bag and quiet, unadvertised support for students he thinks are worth the effort.

1. Quirk Apprehension Test

   He introduces himself by cancelling the class's orientation ceremony and running a Quirk-based fitness assessment instead, announcing that whoever places last will be expelled. When Bakugo loses his temper, Aizawa erases his Quirk and warns him about wasting talent. Afterwards he reveals the expulsion threat was a lie designed to force maximum effort.

2. Class 1-A settles in

   He oversees the class's administrative business with visible boredom, dozing in his sleeping bag while the students argue over who should be representative and demanding only that they hurry up. His indifference contrasts with the meticulous notes he keeps on each pupil's performance and weaknesses.

3. U.S.J. arc

   Arriving at the rescue facility alongside Thirteen, he faces a mass villain incursion alone so the students can flee. Goggles down, he erases Quirks in rapid succession and binds attackers with his capture weapon, but his power cannot be sustained, and the Nomu overwhelms him with brutal ease.

4. Aftermath of the U.S.J.

   He survives the attack with shattered arms and severe facial injuries and spends the closing episodes heavily bandaged. Despite this he returns to duty as soon as he can, dismissing concern and moving the class on toward the upcoming sports festival with his usual lack of ceremony.

Class 1-A

Homeroom teacher

He greets them with threats and cold assessments, yet fights a small army alone to keep them alive. His concern is expressed entirely through discipline and risk management rather than encouragement.

Izuku Midoriya

Student

He notes immediately that Izuku cannot control his own power and injures himself with it, and pushes him to prove he can be useful rather than merely brave. He also intervenes to protect him during the U.S.J. attack.

Katsuki Bakugo

Student

He shuts down Bakugo's outburst during the apprehension test by erasing his Quirk, telling him plainly that raw talent is worthless if he cannot control his temper. Bakugo grudgingly accepts the rebuke.

All Might

Colleague

A fellow U.A. teacher whose flamboyant style is the opposite of his own. Aizawa is sceptical of the symbol-of-peace approach, but he is the one buying time until All Might arrives at the U.S.J.
