Amado Sanzu

Kara's chief scientist and the architect of its cyborg technology, Amado defects to Konoha with intelligence on Isshiki Ōtsutsuki. Coolly manipulative, he trades secrets for asylum while pursuing a private goal rooted in the daughter he lost. His schemes place Kawaki and Boruto on collision courses neither chose, and his willingness to treat people as components makes him one of the series' most unsettling allies.

Amado looks like an aging man of above average height with a lean, slightly stooped build. His pale silver hair is swept back from a high forehead and gathered at the nape, and he wears a heavy moustache with a short squared beard. Small round spectacles rest over tired, deeply lined eyes that rarely widen. Inside Kara he favours a dark high collared coat fastened at the throat with a red ornament, worn over plain trousers and boots. After relocating to the Hidden Leaf he is most often seen in a researcher's white coat, hunched over glowing consoles and surgical rigs.

Dry, sardonic and almost aggressively unimpressed, Amado speaks to gods and kage in the same weary, lecturing tone. He is a pure pragmatist who treats living bodies as engineering problems and negotiates everything, offering information in measured portions so that he always retains leverage. He openly admits he is a coward with no stomach for combat, yet he is fearless in argument, needling Delta and even his own master. Beneath the cynicism sits an unhealed grief for his dead daughter, which is the real engine behind decades of experimentation and betrayal. He is manipulative rather than cruel, and genuinely fond of the artificial people he has created, treating some of them as family.

Before the series, Amado was a brilliant researcher whose young daughter Akebi died of an incurable illness, a loss that consumed him. He entered the service of Kara's leader Jigen, becoming the organisation's chief scientist and the architect of its inhuman strength. He designed the cyborg modifications that turned Delta, Boro and Code into Inners, gave Delta the face of his lost daughter, and cultivated Koji Kashin from the preserved cells of Jiraiya. He also perfected the surgical and chemical process that prepared Kawaki to receive Karma. Realising his master would never restore what he had lost, he spent years quietly building the tools and the accomplices needed to destroy him.

1. Kara Actuation Arc

   Introduced as the irritable technician who keeps Kara running, Amado monitors Kawaki's Karma data, repairs Delta after her failures, and argues with Jigen over resources and the vessel's readiness. His grumbling conceals careful record keeping, and his private conversations with Koji Kashin hint that Kara's science division has an agenda entirely separate from its leader's.

2. Vessel Arc

   When Jigen returns gravely weakened from his clash with Naruto and Sasuke, Amado is the one who assesses the damage, explains the limits of the body being used as a host, and quietly confirms that the countdown he has been waiting for has begun. He continues stalling while Kawaki remains beyond Kara's reach in the Hidden Leaf.

3. Kawaki Arc and defection

   Amado walks into Konoha and requests asylum, offering the village everything he knows. Under interrogation he explains the Otsutsuki life cycle, the true nature of Karma, the identity of Koji Kashin, and the kill switches built into Kara's cyborgs. He also proposes removing Kawaki's Karma, gambling that Konoha's leadership will accept a traitor's terms.

4. Isshiki's Assault Arc

   His intelligence about the enemy's collapsing lifespan shapes the entire battle plan, giving Naruto and Sasuke a target to outlast rather than defeat. Watching from Konoha, Amado sees his long scheme partially succeed and partially fail, and afterwards remains in the village as a closely supervised asset with a permanent escort.

5. Code Arc

   Amado becomes Konoha's reluctant resident authority on Otsutsuki threats, upgrading Kawaki, working on Karma removal, and studying Boruto's advancing transformation. He finally reveals the two most dangerous devices he ever built, the siblings Eida and Daemon, and brokers their arrival in the village, proving once again that he never shares his full intentions.

Akebi

Deceased daughter

Her death is the wound that defines him. Every creation he makes carries some echo of her, and his willingness to betray a god grows directly from the refusal of that god to bring her back.

Delta

Creation and unwilling colleague

He built her body and gave her his daughter's face, then spent years enduring her contempt. Their exchanges are a constant stream of insults, yet he knows precisely which command words will switch her off.

Koji Kashin

Creation and co-conspirator

Grown from Jiraiya's cells, Koji was raised as Amado's instrument for regicide. The two plotted together inside Kara for years, and Koji's fate remains one of the few things Amado speaks of without sarcasm.

Kawaki

Patient and project

Amado prepared Kawaki's body as a vessel, then later worked to free him from it. The boy alternately trusts and resents him, and Amado's upgrades make Kawaki one of Konoha's strongest defenders.

Shikamaru Nara

Handler

Konoha's strategist conducts most of Amado's interrogations and controls his freedom of movement. Their relationship is a wary duel of intellects in which each assumes the other is withholding something.

• He walks unarmed into the Hidden Leaf and requests asylum in exchange for everything Kara knows.
• He reveals to Konoha's leadership that Koji Kashin was grown from Jiraiya's preserved cells.
• He explains the Otsutsuki cycle of vessels, Karma and resurrection, reframing the entire conflict for Naruto and Sasuke.
• He performs the operation intended to free Kawaki from his Karma.
• He unveils Eida and Daemon, the most dangerous pair of beings he ever engineered.

• Like other Kara members, his name draws on Buddhist imagery; Sanzu refers to the river said to be crossed after death.
• He is the only Inner of Kara with no fighting ability whatsoever, relying entirely on knowledge and leverage.
• Delta's face was modelled on his late daughter, a detail she herself was not told for a long time.
• He is voiced in Japanese by Kenyu Horiuchi.
• He claims that fear and self preservation, not idealism, guide nearly every decision he makes.
