Isshiki Ōtsutsuki

The true power behind Kara, Isshiki survives for centuries by hijacking the body of the monk Jigen, planting his Kārma in Kawaki as a replacement vessel. Cold and utterly without sentiment, he seeks to plant the Divine Tree on Earth and reclaim the power stolen from him ages ago. His assault forces Naruto and Sasuke into the most desperate battle of the series.

For most of the series he appears as Jigen, a tall, gaunt, shaven headed man in dark priestly robes, with heavy eyes, a severe mouth and a black Karma pattern running down his chin. As the Otsutsuki within reclaims the body, the transformation is grotesque: horns push through the skull, the skin turns pale and waxy, and the eyes become ringed and inhuman with dark markings sweeping across the face. In his fully awakened state he wears layered white and black robes and carries slender black rods that he can shrink or expand at a thought.

Isshiki is cold, absolute and utterly without sentiment. He speaks in flat pronouncements, views humans as cattle bred to feed the divine tree, and regards even his own followers as disposable tools whose loyalty he purchases with promises he never intends to keep. What passes for emotion in him is a deep, corrosive resentment, particularly toward the partner who betrayed him a millennium ago, and a mounting frustration that his revival depends on such fragile materials. He is methodical rather than cruel for pleasure, willing to wait centuries for a plan to mature. When his schedule finally collapses, that composure cracks into open rage, and his last decisions are shaped by spite as much as strategy.

Isshiki arrived on this world roughly a thousand years before the series alongside Kaguya Otsutsuki, intending to plant the divine tree and harvest its fruit. Kaguya turned on him instead, leaving him mortally wounded and forced to shrink himself to survive. He took refuge in the body of a devout monk named Jigen, spending centuries slowly rebuilding his strength while his host's frame proved fundamentally inadequate for an Otsutsuki soul. Using Jigen's identity, he founded the organisation Kara, gathered scientists and cybernetically enhanced enforcers, and set them searching for a suitable vessel, eventually branding the child Kawaki with Karma so that his consciousness could one day be reborn in a body that would not break.

1. Kara Actuation Arc

   Presented only as Jigen, the enigmatic leader who summons the Inners to meetings in a shifting dimension and speaks of the vessel as the organisation's sole purpose. He disciplines Delta, dismisses Amado's complaints, and travels personally to retrieve Kawaki once the boy escapes into the Hidden Leaf.

2. Vessel Arc

   Jigen confronts Naruto and Sasuke, revealing power far beyond anything Kara has shown. He seals the Seventh Hokage away in another dimension and drives Sasuke off, but the strain wrecks his host body and forces him into a long dormancy, buying Konoha the time it desperately needs.

3. Kawaki Arc

   While he recovers, his organisation fractures around him. Amado defects with Kara's secrets, Koji Kashin moves against him, and the vessel he built everything upon begins to refuse the future assigned to it. When he finally reawakens, the Otsutsuki takes the body fully and discards the name Jigen.

4. Isshiki's Assault Arc

   Restored to his true form, Isshiki attacks with almost casual dominance, shrinking obstacles, raining expanded rods and outclassing Naruto and Sasuke together. Only the revelation that his borrowed lifespan is nearly exhausted gives his enemies a strategy, and the battle becomes a race to survive until his time simply runs out.

5. Aftermath and legacy

   Denied his intended vessel, Isshiki ensures his will outlives him by leaving his mark and his mission with Code, guaranteeing that his ambition for the divine tree continues to threaten the world long after his body fails. His shadow drives the entire later conflict.

He selected the boy, branded him and shaped his childhood around the eventual takeover. Kawaki's refusal to become him is the personal defeat that wounds Isshiki most deeply.

The monk whose body he occupied for centuries. The vessel's human limits constantly restrict him and ultimately determine the countdown that his enemies exploit against him.

She betrayed and nearly killed him when they first came to this world, an act that stranded him in a dying body and coloured a thousand years of patient, bitter planning.

He employed the scientist to perfect vessels and enforcers, dismissing his requests as trivial. That contempt handed Kara's most dangerous mind both a motive and a decade to arrange his master's death.
