Naruto Uzumaki

Once the village outcast, Naruto now governs Konoha as Seventh Hokage, a job that swallows the time he wishes he could give his children. His strained bond with Boruto forms the emotional core of the series. When Kara and the Ōtsutsuki descend on the village he fights as a father as much as a leader, and his sacrifices - including the loss of Kurama - reshape the story's balance of power.

Now in his thirties, Naruto keeps his bright blond hair spiky but shorter and neater than in his youth, with the three whisker marks on each cheek and vivid blue eyes unchanged. He wears a dark long-sleeved uniform with orange accents beneath the white Hokage haori, which is trimmed with a flame motif and marked on the back with the characters identifying him as the Seventh. His right arm is a pale prosthetic grown from Hashirama cells. Faint lines of fatigue around his eyes betray years of paperwork, sleepless nights and the weight of the office.

Naruto remains warm, informal and stubbornly optimistic, greeting subordinates like friends and refusing to write anyone off, including a child raised as a living weapon. Age has given him patience and political caution, but he still bends rules when a life is at stake. His great failing is domestic: he pours himself into the village so completely that his son experiences the Hokage and the father as two different people, and Naruto knows it and cannot fix it. He is deeply self-sacrificing, quick to put his own body between danger and anyone else, and carries guilt over the burdens his position places on his family. Around Kawaki he is gentle, undemanding and patient to a fault.

Orphaned at birth when the Nine-Tails was sealed inside him, Naruto grew up ostracised in Konoha before earning the village's respect as a shinobi. He fought through the Fourth Great Ninja War, reconciled with Sasuke at the cost of an arm, and finally achieved his lifelong ambition of becoming Hokage. He married Hinata Hyuga and fathered Boruto and Himawari. As Seventh Hokage he presided over an unprecedented era of peace in which the great villages cooperate, technology transformed shinobi life, and children grow up without knowing war. By the time this series begins he has partnered with Kurama for decades and relies on Sasuke as his outside agent against emerging threats.

1. Academy and Early Village Life

   Naruto governs a peaceful Konoha while struggling to be present for his children, frequently sending shadow clones to family occasions. His absences fuel Boruto's resentment. He handles the Ghost incidents and other domestic crises, balancing paternal guilt against a Kage's duty to a village that constantly needs him.

2. Chunin Exams and Momoshiki Arc

   During the Chunin Exams, Momoshiki and Kinshiki attack and abduct Naruto for Kurama's chakra. Held captive in another dimension, he is rescued by Sasuke, the Kage and Boruto, and fights alongside his son for the first time, finally connecting with him through combat and a shared Rasengan.

3. Kawaki and Kara Actuation Arc

   Naruto takes the traumatised Kawaki into his own home over the objections of village officials, treating him as a son rather than a specimen. When Jigen comes for the Vessel, Naruto and Sasuke are outmatched, and Naruto allows himself to be sealed inside a pocket dimension to buy time for the others.

4. Isshiki Otsutsuki Arc

   Freed from Jigen's seal, Naruto faces Isshiki knowing conventional power is useless. With Kurama's agreement he activates Baryon Mode, a state that burns the lifespan of both partners to overwhelm the enemy. The gamble works, but Kurama's fabricated warning proves false in its details and the fox dies, leaving Naruto drastically weakened.

5. Code Arc and Finale

   Powerless by his former standards, Naruto continues leading the village against Code and Eida while relying on Sage Mode, allies and strategy. His refusal to abandon Kawaki or Boruto sets up the tragedy of the finale, in which he is removed from the board entirely and the village is left believing the worst about his son.

Their bond is strained by Naruto's constant absence and Boruto's need to be seen as himself rather than the Hokage's child. They reach an understanding through shared battle, but old wounds and new secrets keep reopening the distance.

Naruto shelters him without conditions and refuses to view him as a weapon, becoming the first adult Kawaki trusts. That unconditional acceptance ultimately drives Kawaki to extremes in the name of protecting him.

Sasuke Uchiha

Best friend and right hand

Sasuke operates outside the village as Naruto's eyes on Otsutsuki threats. Their partnership is built on total trust and few words, and together they form Konoha's strongest fighting pair until age and injury erode both.

Hinata Uzumaki

She anchors the household and mediates between Naruto and their children, supporting his impossible workload without complaint while quietly shouldering the family life he keeps missing.

Kurama

The Nine-Tails has shifted from prisoner to equal, sharing decades of battles and private counsel. Kurama's willing sacrifice in Baryon Mode is the defining loss of Naruto's adult life.
