Raised in captivity by the Witch Queen in the Witches' Forest, Vanessa fled to the Black Bulls, where she drinks heavily and dotes on her comrades. Her thread magic binds enemies, puppets allies out of danger and weaves protective webs. Her ultimate spell, the fate-altering cat Rouge, rewrites a fatal moment to spare a friend. She treasures the found family that gave her the freedom her birth-mother denied her.

A tall, full-figured woman with long, loosely curling rose-pink hair that falls past her waist and heavy-lidded eyes that often look half asleep from drink. Her everyday outfit is deliberately immodest: a minimal dark top, brief shorts or a short skirt, and long boots, frequently worn beneath the tattered Black Bulls robe she treats as a blanket. She is rarely shown without a wine bottle in hand. When her magic fully awakens, a crimson cat-shaped spirit curls around her shoulders, and threads of red mana trail from her fingers like ribbons.

Warm, teasing and cheerfully hedonistic, Vanessa drifts through the Black Bulls' base in a permanent haze of alcohol and affection. She flirts with everyone, calls the squad her family, and defuses tension with jokes rather than confrontation. Underneath that laziness sits a woman who spent years caged and who therefore prizes freedom above almost anything, hers and other people's alike. She is protective in a maternal way, mending clothes and wounds with equal fuss, and she is genuinely frightened of being controlled again. Her growth across the series is the discovery that she will fight, and suffer, for the people she loves rather than simply drink her fear away.

Vanessa was born in the Witches' Forest, a closed society of magic-using women ruled by the Witch Queen. Her rare thread magic marked her as a prize rather than a daughter, and the Queen kept her locked in a birdcage for years so that her power could be studied and hoarded. Isolation left her with an ordinary child's longing for the outside world and no way to reach it. Yami Sukehiro, then travelling near the forest, found her and effectively broke her out, and she followed him into the newly formed Black Bulls. The squad's misfits became the family she had never been allowed, and she buried the memory of the cage under wine, laziness and warmth.

1. Black Bulls Introduction

   Vanessa is one of the first Black Bulls Asta meets, sprawled drunk in the squad's chaotic base. She sizes up the new recruits with amused affection and immediately adopts them, mending their clothes and cheering their reckless plans while doing as little formal knight work as possible.

2. Seabed Temple

   Joining the mission to the Underwater Temple, she uses her threads to manipulate opponents and even to move injured allies like puppets when they can no longer stand. Against Vetto of the Eye of the Midnight Sun her bindings buy critical seconds, and she is badly hurt holding the line for her squadmates.

3. Witches' Forest

   With Asta's arms ruined, the Bulls travel to her homeland for a cure, forcing Vanessa to face the Witch Queen who caged her. Cornered as her friends are turned against her, her desperation to protect them awakens Rouge, the thread spirit of fate, and she finally chooses her found family over her fear.

4. Elf Reincarnation

   During the elves' assault on the Clover Kingdom, Vanessa supports the scattered Black Bulls, repairing gear and bodies and weaving Rouge's protection around allies who would otherwise have been killed outright. Her magic becomes a quiet backbone of the squad's survival rather than a frontline weapon.

5. Heart Kingdom and the Spade Threat

   Training with the Heart Kingdom's spirit guardians, she refines Rouge into a reliable shield of altered outcomes instead of a panic reflex. When the Dark Triad strike and Yami is taken, she stands with the Bulls as they prepare to cross into the Spade Kingdom for him.

Yami freed her from the Witch Queen's cage and gave her a place with no conditions attached. Her loyalty to him is absolute and unsentimental, expressed through teasing rather than gratitude, and his capture shakes her badly.

The Queen raised and imprisoned her, treating her rare magic as property. Confronting her forces Vanessa to reject the idea that she belongs to anyone, and the confrontation is the turning point of her character.

She fusses over Asta like an older sister, mending his clothes and his morale, and his refusal to give up on his ruined arms pushes her toward her own awakening. She rarely lets him see how worried she is.
